"You change the world when you change your mind!" -Kinky Boots
Theatre is the most effective storytelling medium, because as a collaborative art form, it gathers the histories, experiences, perspectives, and dreams of all who participate, culminating in an experience full of pure humanity that can deeply resonate with audiences.
As the son of a drama teacher, Darren is a strong believer in the value of theatrical education, particularly as the skills learned, and confidence gained, are valuable in most any career. Some of Darren's earliest memories are as a child, going backstage and seeing how the magic was made. This sparked an interest that subconsciously set a path for life. His stage crew experience from high school and community theatre, garnered scholarships, and he was able to take his BA of Theatre from Weber State University, and work professionally in venues across the country for over 30 years. Formative experiences include working as the Stage Manager & Prop Designer at Promised Valley Playhouse in Salt Lake City, and as the Technical Director for the Murray Louis/Nikolais Dance Company in New York City. He currently works as a Lighting Designer for video shoots, concerts, broadcasts, but he really enjoys lighting shows for various Utah community theatres, including many shows on both the main stage and second stage. Centerpoint holds a place in his heart as he was the lighting designer for the first Christmas show at CPT, after lighting the last Christmas show at Rodger's Memorial Theatre. He is thrilled to join the staff of Centerpoint Academy.
